Conkwell Woods, Somerset ST795629 51°21′54″N , 002°17′43″W

Time stands still in the woods above the Kennet and Avon canal, in amongst mixed beech woodland, the narrow lane contours the valley and leads on towards Bathampton. The autumn light was just starting to creep in as this north facing valley woke on this chilly morning.
 
Deep gulleys have formed over time between the tree-planted banks on each side of the road, would Roman feet have once walked this route?
