Painting the Somerset Landscape, semi abstract
June 2027
The courses are suitable for all abilities and the small class size means that you will get individual tailored attention. We will look at themes that are inspired by nature and the natural environment. Classes are small and each course will run with a maximum of 5 people - Landscape and stitch will be a maximum of 4.
This is a 5 week course happening in 2027
Monday evening 6pm - 8.30pm,
7th June, 14th June, 21st June, 28th June, 5th July
We'll look at layering in the landscape

WEEK 1:
Start with drawing,
Looking at places, shapes and composition,
Movement
Aiming for 4-8 landscape sketches
Talking about colour use
WEEK 2:
Looking at different colour back grounds - lemon yellow and orange
Limiting palette and looking at colour relations
working with wide brushes and gesture
Create 2 paintings
WEEK 3:
Experimenting different colour back grounds - crimson and ochre
Limiting palette
Create 2 paintings
Looking at different brushes
How to create more abstracted shaoed
WEEK 4:
Drawing into paintings from previous week with crayon, water soluble
Choosing compositions for 2 paintings next week
Choosing background colours and preparing surfaces
Test sketches
Choosing colour palette
WEEK 5:
Creating two paintings 74 x 25 cm
Base layer in acrylic - adding tonal depth
Top layer in oil - using a wet in wet technique
